Abstract

Field experiments were conducted for three consecutive Kharif seasons of 2009, 2010 and 2011 at the experimental farm of Zonal Agricultural Research Station (Sub-montane Zone), Shenda Park, Kolhapur, to study the efficacy of five fungicides of triazole group viz., tebuconazole 25.9% EC, difenconazole 25% EC, hexaconazole 5% SC, tricyclazole 75% WP and propiconazole 25% EC against fruit rot disease of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici. Performance of these triazole fungicides was compared with mancozeb 75% WP, propineb 70% WP, copper oxychloride 50% WP and carbendazim 50 WP. Fungicide, tebuconazole appeared the most effective amongst the fungicides tested, with reduction in fruit rot incidence and intensity to the tune of 69.96% and 73.56%, respectively over unsprayed control, followed immediately with similar efficacy by other two triazoles viz., difenconazole and hexaconazole. Highest dry fruit yield of 25.91 q ha-1 was recorded in the plots sprayed with tebuconazole and was at par with that obtained in difenconazole, hexaconazole, tricyclazole, propineb and mancozeb sprayed plots. Although, the maximum increase in yield was obtained by spraying tebuconazole, the maximum benefit:cost ratio was obtained with hexaconazole. It means that tebuconazole though increases the yield, the cost of fungicide could not be yet met out with the increased yield. Conclusively, the present investigation reveals that four sprayings of fungicide, hexaconazole 5% SC at the concentration of 0.1%, first in the early fruiting stage and subsequent three sprays at 14 days' interval, are most effective and economical for controlling fruit rot disease of chilli under Maharashtra conditions.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Farm of Jute and Allied Fibre Crops, MPKV, Rahuri to optimize the suitable sowing date, spacing along with topping management practice in seed yield and economics of jute (Corchorus olitorius). The three dates of sowing viz., 24^th MW (11-17^thJune), 26^th MW (25^th June-1^st July) and 28 MW (8-15^th July), four spacings like 45cm x 10 cm, 45cm x 15 cm, 60 cm x 15 cm and 60 cm x 15 cm and three topping management techniques viz., No topping, 30 DAS and 45 DAS were laid out in split-split design and replicated thrice. Sowing date of 24^th MW recorded significantly higher growth and yield attributes and jute seed yield (17.94 q ha^-1) as compared to 26th MW (15.02 q ha^-1) and 28^th MW (13.08 q ha^-1) and it was 19.44 per cent higher than 26^thMW and 37.15 per cent higher than 28^th MW during the Kharif season of 2015. Similarly, It significantly recorded highest gross return (Rs.107674 ha^-1), net return (Rs. 65036 ha^-1) and B:C ratio (2.52) due to more seed yield achieved during this year. Spacing of 60 cm x 15 cm recorded significantly growth, yield attributes and seed yield (17.29 q ha-¹). Similarly, It also recorded higher gross return (Rs. 102013 ha^-1), net return (Rs. 59352 ha^-1) and B:C ratio (2.17). Topping at 45 DAS registered significantly higher seed yield (17.88 q ha^-1) than over no topping and topping at 30 DAS. Similarly, it was also noted that the significantly higher gross return (Rs.107297 ha^-1), net return (Rs. 63658 ha^-1) and B:C ratio (2.26) were achieved by topping at 45 DAS. Sowing of jute (C. olitorius) during 24^th MW week (11-17^th June) with optimum spacing of 60 cm x 15 cm and topping at 45 DAS is recommended for higher seed yield and maximum returns of jute in irrigated conditions.
